Updated Research Web
Wed 08 May 2013, 5:20 pm by NickTheNick
Okay guys, here is my first Devblog to fulfill my responsibility as Strategy Team lead.

Finally I have procured some work to show for my efforts in conceptualizing the Strategy Mode. The Research Web is a pivotal component of post-sapience gameplay, as it is what drives your species forwards from the Awakening stage to their final steps into Ascension. Through a graphing program, I have managed …

I agreed, until the first species I found around the corner was... rather inappropriate. I think all species shared should be authorized before being automatically downloaded or shared on the official website.

Well we'll obviously have moderators controlling the Sharing Forums. This can be dealt with by them.

My vote goes in for Thrive Omnibus, but Thrive Content Library is fine.

Ima start a new thread on mandatory sharing ideas.

What about: "the great chest of thrive"?
or "thriving content for thrive"? Smile

I think TCL is winning here.

I probably already said it, but I am totally for Thrive Content Library. It fits the "feel" of the game much better.

What about the Thrive Archive? (It rhymes, and Archive is a cool word)

Also, whats the point of making and saving organisms and planets into an Archive? Arent all organisms made gradually through auto-evo? Its not like spore that each phase it selects ten presets. Same with planets, the galaxy is all generated. How will people fit in the planets theyve made?

Planets would have a reason to be saved, as you would be able to play on that world. I assume the creatures would be more of a "look what I made" kind of thing

Ahh ok.

However, my suggestion still stands. Thrive Archive sounds nice, and is simpler than Thrive Content Library, which sounds too technical.

I personally think Content Library sounds fine. It's simple, and I think when the programmers start displaying the game in will be easier to say.

Seriously, say Thrive Archive in a sentence twice, I have watched a lot of demo footage for games that have a feature, and having them have ti say a rhyme or goofy name makes them lose accountability in my opinion.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. I think Thrive Archive, or just the Archive, is simpler than the Thrive Content Library. I dont find it at all harder to say, and based off of word count, its one less.

Saying Thrive Archive in a sentence twice just reminds me how nice it sounds. I dont think the rhyme is detrimental, and I do not think that that is comparable with the name being goofy.

Ok, thats good too. I just prefer the term Archive over Library. Imagine if you had a castle, and you were going to get a book. Would you want to search in the library, or the archive?

I don't know why, but I like the sound of Galaxy Gate, as in a gateway to the thrive galaxy. Does the name need "thrive" in it?

I think Thrive Archive has the clearest meaning of these suggestions. Galaxy gate makes me think of something else entirely, and I'm afraid dimasciene's suggestions also seem quite unclear. I appreciate the theme, but the meaning just doesn't seem clear enough.
Thrive Archive is the quickest to read and simplest to say so far, though it is beaten in ease to understand by Thrive Content Library. I'm fine with either.

P.S.

The library of course, it has fiction. Razz

Although if the castle's past holds a great secret, known by no living person since the former caretaker disappeared under mysterious circumstances, then maybe… What if the great secret was in fact the first, calamitous encounter with extraterrestrials, by which the fate of humanity could be determined‽ I must know! To the archive!
