2011: A look back
Sun Jan 01, 2012 7:29 pm by ~sciocont
I'm not one to celebrate the new year much- where I live, It just means four months of freezing weather and little daylight- but I'd like to take a look back at what we as a community have done in 2011, and peer forward into 2012. At times our project seems awash in uncertainty, and I think we might never reach our goals. It's at times like this when I stop to think about what Thrive has …

PostStrategy Mode Update

So, this is the first wrap-up of how Strategy Mode and the Society Stages are coming along. It's also my first Devblog, so i hope it goes well and does what it needs to do.

The wiki has got quite a few articles on the Nation Editor and other mechanics that are helpful in this stage and mode. Here's some of the important links:

Strategy Mode

Nation Editor

Society Centres

Apart from the constant American vs British spelling of 'Centres' conflict, these mechanics are close to set in stone. The Military Centres and Military Squads concepts are also worth a read.

And then we have the research tree. For the current document, see This Thread. The Research Tree is coming on quite nicely, and it is beginning to look very different to the civmodmod tech tree that we based it off, which is just what i hoped would happen.

Basically, there are many dedicated members here that are keeping Sapient Gameplay alive and well. I would like to especially thank Commander Keen for doing a great job with all things military, and Tenebrarum for helping keep the game concept fun for pacifists. Also, both of you need commendations on your help with the Research Tree. It wouldn't be as good as it was without your constant improvements, and as long as there are people like you around to keep me in check, i know that this stage of the game will turn into the best stage of the game (Sorry, all you pre-sapient lovers, i'm sure you'll have fun with your stage, too).

That's it for now, once we finally get this Research Tree nearer to the Godly Researches, i'll give everyone another update.

I'm reading this entire thing...
tomorrow.
Thanks, AK

Edit: Do I smell a little competition here? Let's hear a cheer for Org Mode! Silly RTS players. Wink

Woo! *Hugs* We's got ourselves the beginings of a design doc!

Edit: How about we update a little sooner than Godly? Godly really is a long way away. As in, maybe twice what we have here and then some?

You still did the greatest amount of work, Alaska. Without your refinement of the SC/MC concept, the whole Nation Editor, your new Research tree and overall work at the Strategy mode, we would be nowhere today.

Well done on the Tech Tree, that's probably the framework for all of sentience onwards, so it is a very important part of the game. Nice work with that Alaska.

Nice work to Commander Keen and Tenebrarum, and all those not mentioned too! Three cheers for everyone!

Hip hip, hooray!
Hip hip, hooray!
Hip Hip, hooray!

And for the creatures we'll made on Thrive!
