| Updated Research Web | Wed May 08, 2013 5:20 pm by NickTheNick | Okay guys, here is my first Devblog to fulfill my responsibility as Strategy Team lead.
Finally I have procured some work to show for my efforts in conceptualizing the Strategy Mode. The Research Web is a pivotal component of post-sapience gameplay, as it is what drives your species forwards from the Awakening stage to their final steps into Ascension. Through a graphing program, I have managed …

| And it's been a long time, so my french is probably wrong.
Basically, I need bilingual people to help me translate the wiki, and any future marketing/outreach documents we may have. More languages = wider audience.
Ideally, the step would be to have a native english speaker who also is somewhat proficient in another language work closely on the translation with one or more native speakers of the target language who feel somewhat confident in their english. That way we don't look like complete and utter fools when we release the document.
If you speak two languages, sign up here. If you speak more than two languages, SIGN UP HERE NOW!
Example: Mysterious Calligrapher Native language: English Second language: Spanish (I'm a spanish minor) Other languages that I know a little of or can string a couple sentences together in: French, Latin
To save our server translating will be done by passing around a word doc through PM, PMing me/your team members, when such exist, because our host doesn't do the attatchment thing, apperently. This means that there is a possibility of any fancy formatting/non-arabic characters being lost in the process. If you're having problems with the non-attatchmentness, of the PM, exchange e-mail with your group, and final versions can be e-mailed to me. (PM me first and I'll tell you the address - I get enough spam as is without any of the random trawlers knowing my address.)
Oh, and regardless of how you translate it, Thrive is the game name... I think it would be best if we didn't translate that one. And any technical terms that don't have equivalents.
Edit: wiki is here http://thrivegame.wikidot.com/

| Commander Keen, first language: Czech, second language: English.
I'm 100 sure we won't find any native English speaker that has learned Czech. |

| This would also lead to more confusion in the development team. If someone mistranslates what someone else speaking a foreign language says, we might get something wrong. That's considering how many people around the world would join the project hoping to contribute if we did this.
However, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages by at least a fair amount so I say we do this. |

Did I mention that this was a direct request from sciocont? Anyhow, your approval is welcome.
Andry: Thank you. Will be working with you on the spanish. There's a couple other people who can do spanish floating around here, and my policy is to have as many people look at the translations as possible. (To prevent embarassing spelling errors or using regional slang which won't mean the same thing in different countries.) Expect the spanish to be a kettle of worms for a while - I'm starting today.
Zotobom: go for it. Your english is pretty darn good, too.
Keen: You're in charge of Czech translation, then.
Everybody: What you have will be as concept-for-concept as possible (allowing for idioms - only idiots directly translate idioms) and will be passed about in a standard word doc to the team on your language for approval. When a page is done, PM it to me - I'll hunt down whoever has the key to the wiki and have them put it up. |

| So, I'm gonna be no help here, but I noticed this in the OP and I had to comment.
Latin? Dude. WIN. Set up this forum and it's associated wikis in what was formerly the most commonly know tongue in the civilized world and is now a dead language, and you sir, will have won a free internet. |

| That's too bad, Hongchong. Though if we ever need a Thai voice-over, you're on. Rex, how would I fit the internet in my dorm room? At present I can only manage about 3 bars of connection... Nah, my Latin's not that good yet. We'll be doing adverbs, passive voice and stuff next semester, then I might be ready to tackle some of this, if we take all the technical terms from spanish/italian. The problem is, Romans didn't have the technology, so Latin doesn't have the words. |

| If we have to make a new wiki, we have to make a new wiki. *shrugs* It will be the same stuff, but in a different language - the same wiki, different language settings - if at all possible. Any other game or organization that has a wiki page is able to have an english and a spanish version - or whatever other language - just like a person designing their own website can have a translated version. Obviously, I don't know how to apply this, or I would have petitioned for a key to the wiki instead of bothering the wiki person to put the new pages up. (As I need them, I assume it's the same wiki.)
Speaking of which, who is our wiki person? Anyone who can get me in contact with them gets an alien cookie. |
