Okay guys, here is my first Devblog to fulfill my responsibility as Strategy Team lead.

Finally I have procured some work to show for my efforts in conceptualizing the Strategy Mode. The Research Web is a pivotal component of post-sapience gameplay, as it is what drives your species forwards from the Awakening stage to their final steps into Ascension. Through a graphing program, I have managed …

I'm pretty sure the plural is "platypodes", just like the plural for octopus is "octopodes".

Okay.

*Rolls up sleeves*

Here we go.

This is a lie. It would be true had octopus and platypus come from Greek, but they did not, they came from Latin. Both words in /Latin/ come from Greek roots (oktopodes) but the words themselves are Latin and therefore follow the basic forms of that language, with "us" being the ending for a 2nd declension nominative singular, and "i" being a 2nd declension nominative plural.

This myth largely results from the two-step etymology. Don't let it fool you though, we speak these words because they are Latin, not Greek (Latin being heavily spoken in England until the 1700s). Therefore they should be treated as Latin words and not Greek ones.

BOOM. Etymology.

Adding to useless semantic discussion, "octopi" is an accepted form. Platypi is not, primarily because of linguistic (i.e. this sounds weird) reasons. Possibly also because they're unusual. "Hippotomi" also follows this rule.

Latin one, huzzah.

In the release answer, it is said that it will be released in parts. Well, when will the first part be released?

You can read about cameras and controls here. I'm going to quote myself from another threead:
Quote:
Current concept
You will be able to play in 1st and 3rd person. 1st will be defined by a "camera" you place somewhere on your creature. 3rd will operate like spore's 3rd person camera. In first person, your senses will correlate to your actual creature's senses (we've discussed different render methods for different senses somewhere)

In the god tools thing will geologic things affect weather? Like where I live in Vancouver the coastal mountains cause it to rain 24/7 and we have a temperate rainforest. Then on the other side there's a rain shadow and it's Canada's only desert. Stuff like that would be cool. Also, a warm ocean current in the winter and an arctic current in the summer mean we have a mild climate with a fairly warm winter (canadian standards) and a cool summer. Ocean currents could be really cool. Also, will you be able to fly? and how is that going to work? Sorry if some of these questions have already been asked.

The FAQ thread seems to have become a clone of the Miscellaneous Bugs And Questions Etc. thread... Aren't general (i.e. not frequently asked) questions classed as off topic in this thread? Wait, was that question I just asked off topic? Well, that second one was. Oh dear... pale

Flying is possible, and it will work excellently, we have flying controls in the controls thread.

As for climate... Maybe; I shall join you in awaiting the answer for this one. Wink

As long as new threads aren't starting for every question, I don't care whether it's in the FAQ or Misc thread.
