| Is there a way you can choose a planet to be on? like in Spore? or is the planet randomly generated once you press a New Game button? |

| no wait, I remember a while back, before I joined I saw a thing on the wiki, that said that you can make the planet's core, mantle, crust, make it's biome, and etc. So basically we get almost full customization, right Mysterious? |

| the idea is that you create the planet before starting microbe stage, since then the game deals with the planet's changes, until you get the god tools i guess. |

From the link, it seems the PPG (Procedural Planet Generator) selects a random template planet, then 'terraforms' it. I would presume this means just simulating it a bit randomly until it's fairly unique. This also means you don't make the planet yourself, it's randomly made by the aforementioned program.
This does, however, use the same parts of the program as the Planet Editor, which is the editor in which you can make planets in the way described by MeowMan. You can use this editor in-game when you get advanced terraforming tools (with more options the more advanced they are, ideally). It can also presumably be access from the game's menu.
So, you can make your own planets, but you can't choose to start on one you've made. You can edit your starting planet later when you have terraforming tools, although your civilisation would probably get a bit irritated when all their buildings end up leaning sideways, so it'd be best not to.
I never thought I'd use the word 'aforementioned'... |
